A Deployment For The Record Books…
It’s been eight months of highs and lows for the USS Harry S. Truman. And who knew that Team Mooch would get an inside, pre-deployment look at the ship and crew before its record-setting deployment?
Three aircraft lost, an at-sea collision and a record-breaking strike against terrorist targets in Somalia are among a few of the notable events in Truman’s at sea stint. Additionally, Carrier Air Wing One dropped a total of 1.1 million pounds of ordnance, flew 13,000 sorties and hit 1,100 targets during the deployment.
Despite the tumultuous cruise, the Truman’s officers and crew kept at it and arrived home safely. From all of us with Team Mooch, a hearty Bravo Zulu to the entire strike group!
Also, see the story below indicating there might be some dispute over the tally for Pakistan after its brief air war with India last month. We’ve reposted our interview with Ali Chishti to give you some context about the dispute.
Stay tuned for more updates. And as always, keep us posted on your thoughts and feedback.

Video Roundup
Pentagon officials have just revealed that Carrier Air Wing One set a record on February 1 during air strikes against ISIS targets in the cave complexes in the Calmiskaad region in Northern Somalia. The mission included 16 Super Hornets that dropped 124,000 pounds of ordnance on targets in less than two minutes, which made the mission the largest maritime strike in Navy aviation history in terms of bomb tonnage.
ENCORE: Carrier Air Wing One aboard the USS Harry S Truman lost another Super Hornet. Navy officials confirmed the Super Hornet had what they described as a failed arrestment during nighttime flight operations. The pilot and weapons system officer successfully ejected and suffered only minor injuries. The Super Hornet was lost over the side of the carrier and sunk into the sea.
ENCORE: Military reporter and analyst Ali Chishti joins Mooch from Islamabad, Pakistan to go in-depth on the massive air war between Pakistan and India that took place on May 7.
